Volunteer
Volunteers are the lifeblood of Disability Assistance Dogs. Without your help we cannot complete our mission to provide trained Assistance Dogs to adults and children with a disability. We have plenty of opportunities. Here are some of the ways you can help.
Help during training sessions. You may be asked to provide distractions or to care for dogs waiting for training while at public locations. Qualifications: Available during the daytime for 4 hours. Application: Fill out Volunteer Information Form indicating your desire to be a Training Assistant.
You will work closely with our Head Trainer to learn to train assistance dogs and will be responsible for the training of 1-2 dogs at a time. When training is completed you will work with the client the dog is matched with during their training. Qualifications: Trained more than one dog in obedience and/or other advanced training or completed a certificate program in dog training. Available at least 4 days a week during the day to work with your dog in training. Application: Send resume to Disability Assistance Dogs.
Help design and maintain our website. Write content and develop the look and feel of our website. Qualifications: Website design experience. Familiar with Wordress, Joomla or Drupal. Application: Complete Volunteer Information Form including your background and samples of sites you have designed.
We need you to search for grant opportunities applicable to our mission and help complete the grant applications. Prior grant research experience is a plus! Application: Complete a Volunteer Information Form including what you’d like to do and any experience.
You will be in charge of a trivia event including arranging donations for door prizes and silent auction, publicizing the event, putting up posters, organizing volunteers, hosting the event, etc. Qualifications: Good people skills and desire to fundraise. Trivia event experience a plus! Application: Complete our Volunteer Information Form indicating what you would like to do.
Come play with the dogs in training. You’ll get to play with the dogs in the play yard, give them some grooming, or go with us to the dog park. We especially need people first thing in the morning 7:30-9:30 am every day to go to the dog park and on weekends when the dogs have less activity. Application: Complete our Volunteer Information Form. Include the days and times you are usually available. We will start this around May or June 2010.
You will help out in the office handling data entry, filing, prepare materials for upcoming events, answer and return phone calls and other tasks. Qualifications: Good people skills. Experience with filing and other clerical tasks. Commit to 4 hours per week. Application: Complete a Volunteer Information Form including a description of your qualifications.
It’s a messy job but somebody’s gotta do it! You will help us keep our facility clean and well maintained by scooping the poop and helping with other landscaping tasks. The best part is, you get to play with the dogs while you do it. Application: Complete our Volunteer Information Form indicating what you’d like to do. This will probably start around May or June 2010.
You will work closely with Disability Assistance Dogs Staff and Volunteers to produce our newsletter 4 times a year. Including writing articles, page layout, and working with printer to produce the newsletter. Qualifications: Excellent writing skills. Familiar with and have access to desktop publishing software. Puppy Raisers receive a young puppy and keep it in their home until it is 12 to 18 months old. While you have a puppy you are responsible to teach it basic obedience and good house manners as well as socialize it by taking it in public with you as much as possible.
